Call centre to be set up for helping northeast voters

For the first time, a 24-hour call centre has been introduced by the Election Commission for the benefit of voters in the five states, including Assam, going to the polls next month.

Guwahati: For the first time, a 24-hour
call centre has been introduced by the Election Commission
for the benefit of voters in the five states, including Assam,
going to the polls next month.

Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi told
reporters here Tuesday, "We have for the first time introduced a
24X7 call centre in all the five states going for Assembly

"By dialling 1965, which is common to all the five
states going to polls, the voters can lodge a complaint or ask
any question. These will be directly sent to the control rooms
opened in the district deputy commissioner`s office
of the individual states," Quraishi said.

Stating ten phone lines were operating with young men
and women attending to them, he said, dry runs were on for the
launch on Thursday.

Assam is scheduled to go for the two-phase Assembly
hustings on April 4 and 11.
