Campaign for the village committee elections in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), scheduled to be held on Thursday, ended peacefully on Tuesday.

Council (TTAADC), scheduled to be held on Thursday, ended
peacefully on Tuesday.

As many as 6,71,163 voters will decide the fate of the
8525 candidates for 4019 seats of the 527 village committees
in the battle of the ballots.

More than 8000 polling personnel will be engaged in
conducting elections which would be held on ballots instead of
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Secretary of the state Election Commission Govinda
Bhattacharjee said the polling parties with all necessary
materials have started for polling stations and arrangements
have been made for proper and peaceful conduct of elections.

According to police, security has been beefed up in the
poll-bound areas to prevent any kind of untoward incident. The
856 km long Indo-Bangla border has been sealed to foil any
attempt of intrusion from across the border.

The counting will be held on February 26.
