New Delhi: The Centre has ordered a CBI
inquiry into the murder of a 20-year-old Manipur youth Irom
Roger Singh allegedly by the son of a state minister.
The decision came at the initiative of Home Minister
P Chidambaram who was urged last week by Singh`s parents
who sought a CBI inquiry into the matter.
The Home Minister, whom the parents had met on April 28,
is due to visit Manipur on Monday.
A notification by the Department of Personnel, under
which the CBI comes, said that the case relating to Singh
registered at Singjamei police station be transferred to CBI.
The state government had earlier urged the Centre to had
over the probe to CBI.
N Ajay Meitei (27), the son of Manipur Irrigation and
Flood Control and Sports Minister N Biren, had allegedly shot
Singh fatally using his licensed pistol at Kwakeithel area
near Imphal airport.
Meitei along with his four friends who were with him
on the spot have already surrendered to the police.
