Citizens` delegation to meet PM on ULFA talks

A six-member delegation of the Citizens` Forum of prominent intellectuals of the state on Saturday left for New Delhi to hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on taking the peace talks with the ULFA forward.

Guwahati: A six-member delegation of the Citizens` Forum of prominent intellectuals of the state on Saturday left for New Delhi to hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on taking the peace talks with the ULFA forward.

The delegation, led by Sahitya Akademi award winning litterateur Dr Hiren Gohain, was scheduled to meet the Prime Minister on June 21 and discuss the issue of holding talks with the banned ULFA for a negotiated political settlement of the long drawn issue.

The other members of the delegation are prominent intellectuals Nirmal Choudhury, Indibor Deuri, Khurshid Alam, Hiranya Bhattacharya and Rohini Barua.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had met the Prime Minister on June 15 to discuss the issue of talks with the ULFA and the latter expressed the desire to meet the members of the Citizens Forum formed early this year to take the peace process forward.

The Citizens` Forum had held a convention in Guwahati in April last and adopted a resolution that both the government and ULFA should come forward for unconditional talks.
