Kohima: Opposition Congress in Nagaland
today charged present Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN)
government for abetting `tribal feuds` and fuelling ethnic
tension in Kiphire district in the name of Road Show programme
at Pungro `against the will of the people`.
Violent protest against holding of Road
Show-cum-tribal festival in `a disputed land` yesterday forced
the state government to call off the three-day event beginning
In a statement, CLP leader Tokheho Yepthomi said, "The
brainchild of the road shows should be rightly called the evil
face of NPF-led DAN government."
Claiming that the government`s road show programme
spending crores of rupees had already drawn flake from various
sections of the society, including Churches, Tokheho alleged
that besides causing huge financial loss through lavish
spending, the government finally ignited serious tribal flare
up leading to law and order problem in Kiphire and Pungro
He pointed out that volatile situation arising out of
violent protests in the border district also caused a huge
loss to public properties as roads were damaged and government
vehicles destroyed by the frenzied mob.
"Had the DAN government heeded to the people’s voice
opposing the road show, huge economic loss on arrangement of
the event could have been avoided," Tokheho maintained.
