Shillong: With the Opposition parties in Assam trying to defame Congress-led government with corruption charges ahead of assembly polls, AICC leader Oscar Fernandes today said there was no fault of Congress and that these issues were related to the administration.

"It is not the fault of Congress. There are certain issues related to the administration which have to be dealt with firmly," he said, talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

Assam government is facing corruption charges in connection with the alleged multi-crore North Cachar Hills district autonomous council scam.

Opposition parties have stalled proceedings in the state assembly over the issue.

Fernandes, maintaining that these charges will not harm the party's poll fortunes, said, "The situation in Assam is in our favour and we are going to form the next government."

Saying the government will deal firmly with all corruption cases, he said, "On all the issues, the government of India has taken a positive action. If there is any fault anywhere, further action will be taken."

He said Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has also taken action against corruption charges whenever proved. Fernandes will meet Assam Congress leaders tomorrow to chalk out election strategy.
