Congress urges people to defeat Left Front in Trip

Cong in Tripura urged people to defeat the ruling Left Front govt in next yr`s Assembly elections alleging the collapse of law and order in the state.

Agartala: Alleging that law and order had collapsed in Tripura, opposition Congress on Thursday urged the people to defeat the ruling Left Front government in the next year`s Assembly elections.

"The agony and sufferings of people have crossed the limit with the total collapse of law and order, rise in crime against women and failure of the government to provide security to the people," AICC General Secretary Luizinho Faleiro, in-charge of Tripura, said at a press conference.

"For 19 years people have only suffered and silently been deprived of their rights. I urge the people of the state to pull down this government from power and give a chance to Congress to ensure your rights," he said.

Coming hard on the corruption issue, he said, "While people are living in the ocean of poverty, CPI(M) leaders are staying in the island of prosperity."

The time has come to put an end to the Marxist misrule like the way it was done in West Bengal and Kerala, he said.

Faleiro alleged that the BPL population in the Marxist ruled state still stood at 67 per cent even after pumping of crores of funds under the 16 flagship central programmes.

"I feel bad to see Tripura is marching backward while the entire country is going ahead," he said, adding that of the 8,682 villages, 2,877 hamlets still do not have water supply and 1,513 do not have road connectivity.
