Development Councils for ethnic communities in Assam

Guwahati: The Assam Government on Tuesday constituted Development Councils for ethnic communities, Singpho, Sema, Tangsha, Tai Phake, Tai Khamiang, Tai Turung, Tai Khamti and Tai Aiton, besides Sadharan Jati for ensuring their socio-economic, cultural, educational and ethnic development.

This was announced through a notification by the Welfare of Plains Tribes and Backward Classes Department.

The Development Council for Singpho, Sema, Tangsha, Tai Phake, Tai Khamiang, Tai Turung, Tai Khamti and Tai Aiton would comprise members Bhupeswar Ningda, Mungdangam Singpo, Laseng Kiang, Lukam Tomlung, Tehon Hakhun, Molu Rangrang, Hakheto Sema, Katoli Sema, Chitoi Sema, Pallav Shyam Aailung, Pabitra Shyam, Jepang Chakhap, Nipon Turung, Bitupon Shyam, Kamali Turung, Aimown Chakhap, Manje La, Bishanog Singpho and Rudra Singnen, besides the Director of WPT and BC.

The Development Council for Sadharan Jati consists of Prabhat Kalita, Mitradeb Sarma, Biswaranjan Kalita, Kandarpa Kalita, Jiten Bora, Surabala Barbora, Raju Sarma, Anup Bhagabati, Surjya Kanta Acharjee, Md Jiban Ahmed, Pradip Kr Hazarika, Debendra Nath Bhuyan, Suren Sarma, Chandan Dutta, Jesmina Islam, Bhagadatta Bayan, Md Zehirul Haque, Md Abdul Kayung, Hemendra Baishya, Chakradhar Haloi, Basab Deb, Md Nazibul Omar, B K Roy and Director of WPT and BC as members.

The joint secretary of the WPT and BC department will be the member secretary of the development councils, the notification added.
