Shillong: A glass casket containing a
life-size statue and a relic of 19th century saint John Don
Bosco will be arriving here on June 4 as part of the
round-the-world Don Bosco Relic tour.
The relic, a bone from the right hand of the saint, is
on a pilgrimage from Italy across 130 countries where Don
Bosco Salesians run educational institutions.
"The advent of Don Bosco?s casket containing his relics
is a reminder to all educators that we can play a decisive
role in our contemporary society with its rapid socio-cultural
changes and influence them for the good of their future
generations by following educational methods of Don Bosco," Fr
Joseph of Salesian of Don Bosco said.
The tour of the relic marks the second centenary of
his birth which fall on August 16, 2015.
The casket will be here in Shillong for four days,
during which it will be taken to the Shillong Cathedral Church
where a solemn reception would be held. It will also be taken
to other institutions where people can come to offer their
homage, Fr Joseph said.
