Embankment washed away in Tripura flash floods

Two hundred and fifty people of two Tripura villages were displaced when a portion of an embankment of Kakri river was washed away in flash floods.

Agartala: Two hundred and fifty people of two Tripura villages were displaced when a portion of an embankment of Kakri river was washed away in flash floods, official sources said on Tuesday.

Gobindapur and Hurua villages of North Tripura district were submerged when a portion of the embankment was washed away in the flash flood triggered by incessant rain yesterday displacing the people belonging to 76 families, the sources said.

The displaced have taken shelter at Kalacherra Higher Secondary School and Govindapur Manipuri Mandap.

Food and cash were being distributed among them, the sources said.

State Social Welfare minister Bijita Nath visited the affected areas and the relief camps today, the sources said

The embankment was being repaired, the sources said.
