Aizawl: Federation of Mizoram Government School Teachers (FMGST) on Friday criticised the government for engaging school teachers in the ongoing Census 2011 work to the detriment of the interest of the students.
A press statement issued by the FMGST said that many schools had to be closed down as a large number of teachers were engaged in the census operations and the students would suffer.

In a school having seven teachers, four were engaged in the census exercise, the statement said, adding that the government does not seem to have any respect for the Right to Education Act.

The FMGST also said that the government refused to disburse honorarium to the teachers engaged in the census.
