Ex-AGP minister remanded to four days` pc

Former Asom Gana Parishad minister Bhaben Barua, prime accused in the illegal teachers` appointment case during the AGP regime, was today remanded to four days` police custody in a Dibrugarh court.

Chief Judicial Magistrate P K Bora remanded Barua, who
was arrested yesterday, to four days` police custody.

Police had earlier prayed Barua`s custody for the
purpose of interrogating him in connection with case no
299/08.

Barua, who had been earlier admitted to a hospital for
medical treatment, was arrested after his anticipatory bail
plea was rejected by both local court and Gauhati High Court.

Barua, a former health minister in the last AGP
government, was allegedly involved in the illegal appointment
of teachers under `Operation Blackboard` project.
