Guwahati: The ULFA's anti-talk faction on Saturday claimed that a section of "vested interests" was using fake letterhead of the outfit to issue extortion notices to people in Upper Assam.

"It has been brought to our notice that extortion notices with our letterhead have been sent out to small traders and teachers. The letterhead (used in these notices) is fake," anti-talk ULFA Publicity Secretary Arunodoy Dohotiya said in an e-mailed statement.

A "conspiracy" has been hatched against the outfit in Kakopathar, Doomdooma, Makum and other areas of Tinsukia district where fake extortion notices are sent out and threatening calls are also being made, he alleged.

"We clarify that the ULFA is not involved in any such incident and appeal to the people not to give any heed to such extortion notices by vested interests," Dohotiya added.
