Five militants arrested in Manipur

Manipur Police has arrested five militants belonging to the CorCom group, a conglomerate of seven different militant outfits.

Imphal: Manipur Police has arrested five militants belonging to the CorCom group, a conglomerate of seven different militant outfits.

The militants were arrested here on Saturday.

The police had initially arrested one Seram Sanatomba Singh, a municipal councillor who was also a part of the group on Friday. Singh had led the police to his other associates.

"From a specific intelligence input, we could arrest Seram Sanatomba Singh who is a member of ward number 6. He is a councillor himself, and from his revelation, we could also arrest four other persons who were involved in the hurling of hand grenade in the house of a Congress candidate of Langthabal. They are members of the CorCom group," said Deputy Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, Madhunimai Singh on Sunday.

The police recovered two hand grenades from the militants`` possession.

The militants had earlier in January masterminded the lobbing of a hand grenade at the residence of the Congress candidate from Langthabal constituency Waikhom Shyama Devi.
