Lakhimpur: Flood situation in
Assam`s Lakhimpur district remained grim today as heavy rains
raised the water level of Brahmaputra river and its
tributaries and caused most of them to breach the danger
Official sources said Brahmaputra and its tributaries
Subansiri, Ranganadi, Singora, Dikrong and Boginadi were
rising alarmingly as heavy rainfall continued to lash the
foothills of the Himalayas in Arunachal Pradesh for the
second consecutive day today.
Lakhimpur, a flood-prone district, has been hit by
third wave of floods which had affected more than 50 villages
and hit 25000 people. The worst hit areas are Naoboicha and
Road communication through NH 52 has been disrupted
for the second consecutive day.
Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Jayant Narlikar has
directed officials to provide immediate relief to the
flood affected people.
