Shillong: Frontal organizations in Meghalaya on Monday backed the government’s proposed demolition drive in the city, two days before the Gauhati High Court?s
hearing on the issue.

The Steering Committee Against Murder of Democracy (SCAMoD), a conglomeration of various organizations in the state, have threatened a `march` if the High Court does not
give a `fair` judgment on the illegal settlements along the Wahumkhrah river.
Claiming that the origin of the people who occupy the land along the river is questionable, speakers at a public meeting said that the SCAMoD would not sit idle, but hoped that the High Court verdict would ensure justice.

The president of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People, E Lyttan, told the rally that the state government was yet to evict the squatters though it had embarked on an
eviction drive since 1994.
