Gogoi calls ultras for talks

Assam CM Tarun Gogoi asked the anti-talk factions of the ULFA and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) to come forward for talks.

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi
today asked the anti-talk factions of the ULFA and the
National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) to come forward
for talks.

In an informal chat with reporters on the occasion of
New Year, the chief minister said efforts would be made
to bring the anti-talk factions to the negotiating table.

He announced that a committee would be set up to
monitor the functioning of government departments and give
detailed reports.
On the development front, Gogoi said a package of Rs
5000 crore would be spent by his government in the next five
years to help the people to cope with the problems of erosion
and floods.

On the ongoing man-elephant conflict, the chief
minister announced that a high-level monitoring team would be
set up very soon.
"We understand that the elephants have lost their
habitat and strayed into human habitation and we should find
out ways so that they get their food", Gogoi said.

The chief minister announced that a computerised photo
and film archive will be very soon set up in the name of
cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

To help the ailing the cinema industry, the chief
minister said several cinema halls would be set up in the next
five years.

A special incentive upto Rs 25 lakh would be given to
local youths for setting up small industrial units, he said.
