Guwahati: Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today alleged that the Congress-led government in Assam was shielding politicians involved in the multi-crore North Cachar Hills Autonomous council funds.
"The government is shielding corrupt leaders and are not prepared to hand over to CBI all cases in the hill council scandal," AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary and former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta told reporters here.
Referring to the disruption of the governor`s speech by the opposition on opening day of the state assembly session today, the leaders alleged that the customary address failed to highlight the large scale corruption in the government.
"The chief minister in his speech on the vote-on-account did not mention about corruption and price rise", they said.
The common people have been hit hard and the opposition would continue to raise its voice against corruption in the assembly, they added.
