Guv requests Pawar to set up Vet College in Arunachal

Highlighting the importance of domestic animals, especially Mithun, in tribal society and rural communities of the state, the Governor during a meeting with the minister at Raj Bhawan here yesterday urged him to consider establishing a Mithun research institute and a regional pig breeding centre in the state, a Raj Bhawan communique said here today.

Stating that many horticulture crops such as orange, apple, kiwi, large cardamom and ginger are produced at marketable surplus, the Governor called for more food processing units for the state, with proper market linkage and setting up required infrastructure.

He suggested for revision of cost ceiling on market infrastructures, and proposed setting up a regional research centre for temperate horticulture under the Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR), the communique said.

Underscoring the importance of agriculture and allied sectors in the state and the Northeastern region, which produced huge quantities of citrus and other horticulture products, the Governor suggested preparing a comprehensive agriculture and marketing policy for the region.

He also requested that the intake capacity of the College of Agriculture in Pasighat, the foundation stone for which was laid by Pawar on Tuesday, be increased, the communique added.
