India will not develop till Northeast develops, tweets PM Narendra Modi

Ahead of his visit to the five northeastern states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter on Saturday and said that “India will not develop until northeast develops”.



New Delhi: Ahead of his visit to the five northeastern states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter on Saturday and said that “India will not develop until northeast develops”.

“India will not develop till the Northeast develops. We are committed to realising the potential of the Northeast & accelerating its progress,” Modi tweeted.

Modi will embark on his first visit to the northeastern states including Tripura, Nagaland, Assam and Manipur today.

The PM said that he was eagerly looking forward to the visit and interacting with people.

He added that the “rich natural resources combined with talent of our youth gives our Northeast the potential to play a key role in our development journey”.

Meghalaya will be on the railway map when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate its first train connecting Dudhnoi in Assam with Mendipatha in the state on November 29.

The Prime Minister will flag-off the new rail connectivity to Mendipathar in North Garo Hills from Maligaon in Guwahati and then speak to the people of Garo hills through video conferencing, Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills district D Sangma said.

Approved in 1992-93, foundation of the 19.47 km broad guage railway line was laid by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in 2012.

The British had unsuccessfully built the Cherra Companyganj State Railways in Khasi and Jaintia hills region in 1895-96.
