Guwahati: A special Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) was held between Indian and Chinese army at the historic Maitrey Sthal near the 15000 ft high strategic Bum La Pass in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The meeting, held on Monday, was one of the two special BPMs conducted at Bum La on the Indian side every year, defence sources said on Tuesday.

The BPMs between the forces of the two countries serve as a vital platform for resolving local issues and fostering confidence with a view to enhance peace in the sector and prevent any escalation of tension in the region.

The Indian side was led by Brig Sudhakar Jee while the Chinese delegation was led by Col Gou Yuan, they said.

The meeting began with a welcome address by both the delegation leaders followed by a formal interaction wherein both sides reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen friendship and to maintain peace and tranquility along the border.

After the closing address, the two delegations exchanged gifts, pleasantries and raised several toasts for mutual prosperity, the defence sources added.
