Insurgent arrested in interior Manipur

An insurgent of United National Liberation Front has been arrested by police commandos during a search operation.

Imphal: An insurgent of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has been arrested by police commandos during a search operation at a village in Manipur`s Thoubal district, the police said on Saturday.

Sources said commandos attached to Thoubal police station launched a search operation at remote Chairen village on Friday evening during which an insurgent of UNLF identified as Laishram Inao alias Meitei Leima Devi (21) was arrested.

The police said Leima Devi on questioning revealed that she was given arms training at an insurgent camp near Tamu in Myanmar and was at present working under the command of self styled Lt Col of the outfit, Chingkheinganbi.

A mobile phone along with some materials was recovered from her possession, the police said, adding that she has been handed over to nearby police station for further investigation.

Police sources said that about 100 insurgents of different groups have so far been arrested during various search operations in Manipur this year.
