Agartala: Kamla, former Deputy Chief
Minister of Rajasthan, was on Thursday sworn-in as the Governor of
Tripura.
Justice of Gauhati High Court Amitava Roy administered
the oath of office and secrecy to the 72-year-old freedom
fighter at Raj Bhavan here.
Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways
Mahadeo Singh Khandela, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and his
cabinet colleagues, including Finance Minister Badal
Chowdhury, Food Minister Manik De, Education and Health
Minister Tapan Chakraborty and Higher Education Minister Anil
Sarkar, former chief minister and TPCC president Samir Ranjan
Burman were also present at the ceremony.
Kamla later told reporters that extending all kinds of
help to the state government for development and strengthening
democracy would be her areas of priority.
"Insurgency has declined in the state and it should be
everyone`s duty to protect normalcy and maintain peace and
harmony," the 72-year-old Governor said in her message.
Kamla, born in Rajasthan on January 12, 1927, joined the
freedom struggle at the age of 13. She became a deputy
minister of Rajasthan at the age of 27 in 1954.
She was a member of AICC before coming to Tripura to take
over the duties as Governor.
