Itanagar: Congress legislator Jomde Kena was elected on Thursday as the Deputy Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh legislative assembly.

Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong announced Kena's name as the lone candidate for the post to file nomination, during the day-long special session of the assembly here Thursday morning.

Kena filed three sets of nomination papers on Wednesday for the post which was lying vacant since November 17 following resignation of Tapang Taloh.

Taloh was inducted as Industries, Textile, Handloom and Handicraft Minister in Nabam Tuki-led council of ministers on November 16.

Kena, who represent Likabali constituency of West Siang district, was first elected to the assembly in 2004.

He was re-elected to the assembly from the same constituency in 2009.

He served as parliamentary secretary for IT, Science & Technology and Tourism under Dorjee Khandu and Jarbom Gamlin ministries.
