Kukis, Nagas call separate bandhs in Manipur

United Naga Council (UNC), a Naga social organisation, has called a 48-hour Manipur bandh from August 11 to press for their demand of `an alternative (administrative) arrangement` in Manipur.

Imphal: United Naga Council (UNC), a Naga social organisation, has called a 48-hour Manipur bandh from August 11 to press for their demand of `an alternative (administrative) arrangement` in Manipur.

The bandh would be enforced at all Naga-settled areas of Manipur, a statement issued by them said, adding that the demand meant `dissociation` of all activities and programmes with the government of Manipur.

Nagas wanted to repudiate all relations with the government of Manipur and demanded an `alternative arrangement` for the Nagas in Manipur, it said.

On the other hand, Kuki State Demand Committee announced a 48-hour bandh at all Kuki-inhabited areas in Manipur from midnight of August 13 next to press for creation of a `Kukiland` by breaking the 22, 327 Sq Kms of Manipur.

The committee said it had already submitted a memorandum to the Central government for creation of Kukiland earlier.
