Guwahati: Road communication between Guwahati and Shillong remained cut off today following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall for the past few days.
Landslides were reported from the Byrinhat area last evening and again today at Unming near Nongpoh, bringing road traffic along National Highway 40 to a standstill, an official source said here today.
The National Highway Authority of India has pressed into service several bulldozers to clear the landslide and the road was expected to be cleared by tomorrow.
Hundreds of vehicle have been stranded on both the Assam and Meghalaya sides.
