Links of Maoists with Assam insurgent outfit: Police

The Maoists have established links with a burgeoning insurgent outfit raised in Sonitpur district of Assam, through the ULFA, police said on Friday.

Tezpur: The Maoists have established links
with a burgeoning insurgent outfit raised in Sonitpur district
of Assam, through the ULFA, police said on Friday.

"This was revealed during the interrogation of Tarjan
Majhi, the Sonitpur district commander of the fledging unit,
Adivasi Peoples Army," they said.
Majhi was arrested with five others on Wednesday at
Bhairabguri under Dhekiajuli police station near here.

Majhi claimed that an ULFA self-styled sergeant Major
Das had provided arms training to APA cadre in Majbat area
of Udalguri district and helped them contact the Maoists.

The APA district commander from Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar
district claimed he had recruited a large number of APA
members and procured a some firearms.
Majhi said that the APA was raised in Sonitpur in 2001
and had a cadre strength of 150 operating in Darrang and
Udalguri districts.
