Manipur Speaker elected

Forty-five year old Congress member Thokchom Lokeshore Singh was on Monday unanimously elected Speaker of the Manipur Assembly.

Imphal: Forty-five year old Congress member Thokchom Lokeshore Singh was on Monday unanimously elected Speaker of the Manipur Assembly.
Lokeshore Singh, a former deputy speaker, was the only candidate who filed nomination papers for the post of speaker.
He was escorted to his chair after his election by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Leader of the Trinamool Congress I Ibohanbi.

Lokeshore Singh said he would do his best to ensure that the house functioned democratically.

The chief minister congratulated him and urged him to ensure that the house functioned smoothly.
