Imphal: A mob set afire the house of a man, who attempted to rape a 13-year-old girl at Kairenbikhok village in Manipur`s interior Thoubal district, official sources said Wednesday.
Naorem Basudev accosted the girl who was going to a village pond to collect water and attempted to rape her near a bush after gagging her Tuesday evening, the sources said.
The girl who hailed from nearby Salungfam village and was staying at her mother`s parental house which was a neighbor of Basudev escaped after biting his hand, they said.
The girl later narrate the while story to local people who collected and set afire the house of Basudev at around 8 pm Tuesday night destroying the whole house, sources said adding that basudev was absconding.
No one was inside the house when it was set ablaze, they
said.
