Shillong: The personal security officer
of an MLA has gone missing with arms in East Garo Hills
district of Meghalaya and is suspected to have joined a rebel
group, police said on Tuesday.
Constable Hubert S Marak, a PSO with NCP MLA Omilo K
Sangma, is missing for the past 15 days with his revolver,
carbine and two magazines.
A resident of Williamnagar in East Garo Hills
district, he is suspected to have joined the Garo National
Liberation Army, a police official said.
His department is yet to take action against him as
more verification was required, the official said.
Earlier this year, another constable Savio Marak
deserted his company in the East Garo Hills district with two
INSAS rifles and 60 bullets. He was dismissed from service
after he joined the GNLA and became an `area commander` in the
West Khasi Hills district.
GNLA, a nascent Garo militant group, was floated by a
deserter DSP of Meghalaya Police Champion Sangma, who is now
believed to be in Bangladesh.
The GNLA is blamed for extortion and kidnapping in the
three districts of Garo hills.
