In a letter to Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily, MPP president Nimaichand Luwang said, "we want a separate high court for our state."

A copy of the letter issued to the media further cited that Manipur merged with India in 1949 as a union territory and it had then a judicial commissioner`s court, which is equivalent to the high court.
The judicial commissioner`s court was abolished when Manipur attained statehood in 1972, the letter said adding that Manipur has been under the jurisdiction of Guwahati high court for several years for any court cases.
