Myanmar national arrested in Manipur

A team of Customs Preventive Force (CPF) has seized 3883 tablets, worth over Rs 34 lakhs, being smuggled into Manipur by a Myanmarese national at Moreh in Chandel district, the police said on Monday.

Imphal: A team of Customs Preventive Force (CPF) has seized 3883 tablets, worth over Rs 34 lakhs, being smuggled into Manipur by a Myanmarese national at Moreh in Chandel district, the police said on Monday.

The 46-year-old Myanmarese national, MG Win Men, has been arrested, the police said.

Acting on a tip-off, the CPF personnel who were deployed at Moreh ward number three on Saturday to check people entering the town from neighbouring country, spotted the man moving around in a suspicious manner.

After checking, the CPF personnel found 3883 tablets, known as `World is Yours` tablets, used by party revellers, in his possession.

CPF sources said the tablets were sent by one Mungo from Myanmar border town of Tamu, about 2 km from Moreh, through M G Win Men to hand it over to a person at Moreh town .

In another incident on Saturday last, a Myanmar national who was arrested from Moreh town along with narcotics about two years ago died at J N Hospital here, the sources said

The person was identified as Mayinthang alias Nichu (40).

He was arrested about two years ago and lodged at Sajiwa Central Jail on the outskirts of Imphal since then, the sources said.

He was taken to the hospital on August 8 last following health problems, the sources said.
