Nagaland bogus teacher scam documents missing: Congress

Congress has alleged that several documents required for investigation into the scam of bogus appointment of school teachers in Nagaland have been missing.

Kohima: Congress has alleged that several documents required for investigation into the scam of bogus appointment of school teachers in Nagaland have been missing.

Congress Legislature Party members who met Governor
Nikhil Kumar yesterday have demanded probe into bogus teachers
scam along with other schemes like mid-day meal and SSA.

They alleged that transfers and appointments of excess
teachers by Neiphiu Rio-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland
(DAN) government in the past seven years were made "at a
price" and important documents were destroyed by the
department.

After a special investigation team (SIT) under state
vigilance commission submitted findings on many irregularities
in appointments of teachers since 2004, state government
formed Verification Committee for each district to go through
SIT report.

Quoting SIT report, CLP leaders said posts of teachers
became "saleable commodity" and those listed under bogus,
absentee, excess categories ended up being victimised.

CLP demanded instituting "a logical investigation" to
ascertain which functionaries were involved, persons
responsible for such appointments, number of such appointments
made with government approval, number of appointments made
with forged signature and the people involved in destroying
important government documents as cited in SIT report.
