Kohima: In view of the opposition to 33
percent reservation for women by various tribal bodies in
local body election, Nagaland government on Tuesday moved a
resolution in the assembly seeking six months time to revisit
Nagaland Municipal Act which enshrined the quota for women.
The state government also sought that till that time,
the polls be kept in abeyance.
The three-part resolutions, moved by Urban Development
Minister Shurhozelie, stated that in view of the strong
opposition to the reservation provisions of the municipal act,
the smooth conduct of the slated elections to urban local
bodies might be impeded.
So, all statutory process towards conduct of the polls
be suspended till the government takes decision on the basis
the reports submitted by the assembly committee within six
months, he said.
