No newspapers in Guwahati following hawkers agitation
Guwahati: The city goes without newspapers
on Saturday following hawkers` three-day strike from today demanding
higher commission from the agencies.
Newspaper agencies were depriving the hawkers of their
legitimate commission for a long period, a representative of
the Guwahati Hawkers Association said here.
"We had earlier protested for a day in August and the
agencies assured us that they would consider our demands. But
nothing was done and we have been forced to launch a three-day
agitation," they said.
The hawkers have further threatened to extend their
agitation to the rest of the state if the on-going agitation
does not yield any result.
