Northeasterm states should be taken into confidence : Dabi

Arunachal Pradesh wanted the Centre to take all the five militancy affected states in the Northeast including AP, into confidence before launching any offensive against militants, Home Minister Tako Dabi said Saturday.

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh wanted the
Centre to take all the five militancy affected states in the
Northeast including Arunachal Pradesh, into confidence before
launching any offensive against militants, Home Minister Tako
Dabi said Saturday.

No offensive would succeed unless Arunachal Pradesh,
Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya jointly participated
and cooperated with each other, Dabi told a press conference.
Thanking Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Union
Home Minister P Chidambaram for taking initiatives which had
resulted in the arrest of top ULFA and NDFB leaders, he said
the arrests would lead to improvement in the situation in the
Northeast where the people were fed up with militancy.

He said the situation in Tirap and Changlang
districts, declared disturbed because of activities of
militants from neighbouring states, had improved and except
for a few pockets in Tirap, was under control.

The Arunachal government, he said, appealed to
militants to shun violence and stop kidnapping and extortion.

Chidambaram had visited Tirap last month and the
Centre was ready to despatch additional forces if required, he
said, but as of now the state government did not require them.

Dabi said that the Assam Rifles and police in a joint
operation rescued seven civilians abducted by a NSCN faction,
from Pumao village on the interstate border with Nagaland on
May 5.

Eunuchs for VIP security

Arunchal Pradesh Home Minister
Tako Dabi has suggested raising of a regiment of eunuchs for
VIP security `because of their integrity`.

"Even during the Moghul period, Emperor Shahjehan had
relied on eunuchs for palace security for their integrity,"
Dabu told a press conference here.

Dabi, who had raised eyebrows earlier by defending
drinking by policemen on duty saying it gave them energy, said
he had written to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram about his
suggestion in February and received an acknowledgement.

He, however, did not raise the issue when Chidambaram
visited the state last month, he said.

Dabi had once claimed that he went out incognito at
night on a two-wheeler to identify criminal dens for alerting
the police.
