NSCN(IM) rebel arrested from Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: In a crack down security forces have arrested a self styled captain of NSCN (IM) from Khonsa town in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district, official sources said Tuesday.

Personnel of 19 Assam Riffles and state Police arrested the militant, a Myanmarese national, in an operation last evening in the area, which is near the Arunachal Pradesh-Nagaland border following a tip off, official sources informed today.

The man, who hails from Rokho village of Myanmar had been placed as town commander of Longding and Wakka in Arunachal Pradesh by the Shongshen battalion of NSCN(IM), the sources said.

One 9 mm Chinese pistol with two live cartridges, two mobile phone handsets, cash and one fake driving license was recovered from the rebel.

The sources said the phones had in its records the numbers of top NSCN(IM) cadres, its local conduits and few highly placed people of the district.

With the arrest altogether six rebels of the outfit have been apprehended in Arunachal Pradesh in the last couple of days.

The security forces also arrested the owner of the house from where the rebel was arrested. Following his interrogation several other linkmen were also rounded up by the police, the sources added.
