Aizawl: The repatriation of Bru refugees
from 6 relief camps in Tripura began on Wednesday with 35 Bru
families returning to Mamit district in Mizoram.
State home department officials said, with 1 family
crossing over to Mizoram yesterday, 36 families have returned
and around 17 families were likely to return tomorrow.
Bru families who returned were provided vehicles by
the Tripura government. The transport expenses would be
reimbursed by the Mizoram government with funds received from
the Union Home Ministry, the official said.
The repatriation process began with protests from
anti-repatriation hardliners who demanded a series of
commitments from the Centre and the Mizoram government.
