Shillong: The cultures of the north eastern
states will be showcased at the two-day Shillong Autumn
Festival scheduled to begin here from November 19 to attract tourists to the region.
This year the theme of the festival is
Tourism...Naturally? to create environmental awareness in all
the society and provide a platform to expose and buy natural
and ethnic products, general secretary of Meghalaya Tourism
Development Forum Kenneth Pala said here today.
The festival will begin at Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam in
the outskirts of Shillong and feature cultural performances at
the main stage with the Umiam Lake as the back drop.
The first day of the festival would be centre around
Meghalaya with music, dances and fashion and traditional
cuisine of the state showcased, he said the second day would
be devoted to the rest of the states of the north east.
There would also be activities relating to children and
youth as well, Pala said adding water sports would also be
held during the festival.
The organizers have said this year the festival will be
more controlled in respect to sale of liquor.
