Gangtok: To get a firsthand knowledge of
how government schemes were functioning in the state, Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling would embark on a 36-day `village-to-village` tour this month.

The tour was scheduled to begin on May 17 and will
continue till June 21 but could be extended "on the demands of
the people", Chamling decided at a meeting to review
functioning of various schemes, an official release said here
today.
He directed that all heads of departments would
accompany him in the tour to assess and review works
undertaken by the government in the past 17 years of
governance.

"We will see where our weakness lies and even take
decisions on the spot," he said at the meeting attended by
ministers and heads of the departments yesterday.
It would be a new experiment not only for the state
but even for the entire country, he added.

The chief minister reviewed functioning of most of the
government schemes during the meeting.
