Six insurgents of different outfits laid down arms before senior security officials in Manipur today taking the number of insurgents surrendering to the authorities to nine in the past 24 hours.

today taking the number of insurgents surrendering to the
authorities to nine in the past 24 hours.

Official sources said three insurgents of the banned
People`s Liberation Army (PLA), two of Kangleipak Communist
Party and one of United People`s Party of Kangleipak
surrendered before Director General of Police Y Joy Kumar and
Inspector General of Assam Rifles Maj Gen C A Krishnan here
during the day.

They handed over arms including one M-16 rifle, one AK 47
rifle and three 9mm pistols, the sources said.

Speaking on the occasion Kumar and Krishnan said ultras
who want to join the mainstream by participating in
development programmes would be properly rehabilitated by the
government.

Yesterday three PLA insurgents had laid down arms before
the two officials here along with arms and ammunition, the
sources added.
