Itanagar: Tawang town in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang district located at 10,200 feet above sea level is covered with three feet of snow with the temperature dropping to minus four degree celcius.

The entire Tawang district bordering China has been experiencing heavy snowfall since December 23, official sources said.

The snow has brought cheer for young monks at the Tawang Monastery.

Snowfall during the Torgya festival, being celebrated in the first week of this month, is considered a harbinger of peace and prosperity by the Monpas of Tawang and West Kameng districts.

Sela Pass at an altitude of 14,000 feet on the Bomdila-Tawang road has been covered by five feet snow for the last couple of months.

The Border Roads Organisation has stationed its men to clear the road of snow, Nagamdra Kumar, officer-in-charge of 62 Road Construction Company (RCC) of the BRO, said.

Heavy snowfall has been recorded in other districts of the state also in the past couple of weeks throwing normal life out of gear.
