Tarun Gogoi challenges AGP for whitepaper

Guwahati: Claiming that it was the Congress
governments in Assam which had launched all the development
programmes in the state, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi
today challenged opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) to come
out with a white paper on its achievements when it ruled the
state for two terms.

"Congress will come out with a white paper within two
months highlighting the achievements of my government during
the last nine years of my government`s two term rule in the
state and I challenge AGP president Chandramohan Patowary to
do the same," he told an official function organised to mark
four years of his second term in office.

Lambasting both AGP and BJP, Gogoi alleged that the
former`s rule in the state was the `darkest chapter of Assam`s
history` and the people`s realisation had resulted in Congress
being voted to power for two consecutive terms.

Referring to the alleged secret killing of relatives of
ULFA members during the AGP rule, he called the AGP leaders
`fascists`.

"There is no difference between them and the ULFA with
both indulging in killings, kidnapping and extortions," Gogoi
said. Gogoi said "Both the AGP and BJP sing paens to former
prime minister A B Vajpayee and deputy prime Minister L K
Advani but I ask them which project did they sanction for the
Assam during BJP rule."

The Chief Minister said his government had asked for
border fencing like in Punjab, riverine police, additional BSF
forces and flood lights at the border to stop infiltration but
were not granted any of these.

The two opposition parties, he said, have launched a
`misinformation campaign` against Congress but it had turned
out to be a `blessing` as people had realised that these were
lies.

The more the two parties are lying, the more they
are being exposed, he said.

"Mahatma Gandhi had dreamt of wiping away the tears of
the people and this is the Congress mantra, while the AGP`s
mantra is to serve themselves and the BJP`s agenda is to come
to power. We want to win elections to serve the people not for
power," Gogoi said.
