Itanagar: Much to the respite of East
Kameng district which was facing acute shortage of essential
commodities because of restriction of movement of vehicles
through the Bana bridge, the BRTF has constructed a temporary
bridge adjacent to the “weak” suspension bridge, which was
made operational a couple of days ago.
Apart from this, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki recently sanctioned an amount of Rs 3.30 crore for construction
of a new suspension bridge at Bana as the existing bridge - the
only lifeline of the district - had outlived its stipulated
life-span, official sources said on Monday.
The district administration had declared the bridge
“dangerous” for traffic and banned plying of heavy vehicles
over it, which has affected transportation of essential
commodities and other goods to the district headquarters,
Seppa and upper reaches of the district.
Meanwhile, Seppa West MLA Tani Loffa has expressed
gratitude to the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues for
sanctioning the fund for construction of the new suspension
bridge at Bana.
