Guwahati: Ten persons have tested positive for dengue and some others are suspected to have been afflicted by the virus in Assam.
Director of State Health Services D Hojai said here on Friday while ten cases have been confirmed, the test results of some others are awaited. The origin of the virus has been traced outside the state and all medical colleges, public health centres and civil hospitals in the district headquarters have been directed to take adequate measures in this regard, he said.
The department has already initiated a survey and a team of entomologists, assisted by the malaria team, has been asked to make a door-to-door survey to ascertain the potential
breeding areas inside houses and take necessary measures to tackle the situation, he said.
Dengue fever can be prevented by checking the breeding of its carrier-Aedes mosquitoes, mostly found inside households with the potential breeding grounds being stagnant water and this must be frequently checked and removed.
There is, however, no need to panic and awareness campaigns have been already launched to make people aware of taking the necessary steps required to stop the spread of the disease, Hojai added.
