Guwahati: Three powerful IEDs were recovered from two districts of Assam during search operations by security forces on the eve of Independence Day, police said.

Two IEDs were recovered from Bidyapara in Golaghat district. It was later defused, they said.

In another incident, patrolling army troops recovered an IED from Kokrajhar district.

Meanwhile, a security alert has been sounded throughout the state and security beefed up following Independence Day boycott call by militant outfits, including the ULFA and NDFB.

A multi-layered security cover has been arranged in all district and sub-divisional headquarters to ensure that the official function of Independence Day is held smoothly, police said.
