Three NGO leaders arrested for demanding money

Three leaders of an NGO were arrested here on Thursday for demanding money from a restaurant in Khyndailad area of the city, police said.

arrested here on Thursday for demanding money from a restaurant in
Khyndailad area of the city, police said.
Gordan C Khongsit, Marshall Wahlang and Kitborlang
Lyngdoh were arrested after the manager of the restaurant
complained to the police that the trio demanded money from
him, police said.

On being informed, Meghalaya`s Meghalaya`s Special
Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) commandos laid a trap and
nabbed the trio while coming to collect the money.

The three persons claimed to be leaders of an NGO-
Hynniewtrep People?s Federation (HPF), police said.
Receipt books, money and a maruti car were seized from the
trio.

Police said the trio had collected a huge amount from
businessmen in the city.

They also said that trio had been out of the district jail
recently following various criminal cases against them
including assault and intimidating cases, police said.
