Three NSCN(K) ultras arrested

Itanagar: Ahead of Independence Day, security forces have apprehended three hardcore NSCN(K) ultras from troubled Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh since Friday.

The 19 Assam Rifles (AR) based at the Tirap district headquarter Khonsa during its operations in the area had apprehended NSCN(K) self styled corporal Tedam Ngowa at Deomali on August 11, official sources said on Saturday.

The ultra was arrested following a tip off Kheti village and seized one .22 mm pistol with magazine, five .22 mm live rounds, besides Rs 2,500 and Kyat 20 (Myanmar currency).

Ngowa, who confessed that he was involved in extortion and issuing threats to locals, was handed over to the police yesterday, the sources said.

In another operation 14 Rajput regiment yesterday apprehended two NSCN (K) cadres from Longkhao village in Pongchau Circle under Longding sub Division.

They had camped at the village to carry out extortion on behalf of the faction.

One .22 mm rifle with magazine, four .22 mm live rounds, one banet, one dagger, one mobile phone with SIM card and documents including receipts of extortion money were recovered from their possession, the sources added.
