Train service in Assam section stopped after derailment

The derailment of three coaches of the Arunachal Express in Assam`s Sonitpur which the Railways said was caused by sabotage, led the Northeast Frontier Railway to stop passenger train services.

Guwahati: The derailment of three coaches
of the Arunachal Express in Assam`s Sonitpur which the
Railways said was caused by sabotage, led the Northeast
Frontier Railway to stop passenger train services in the
Rangiya-Murkongselek metre gauge section from Saturday.

"Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed serious
concern over the deteriorating security scenario in the
region. Passenger train services in the section have been
suspended with immediate effect," N F Railway chief public
relations officer S Hajong told PTI here.

The railway minister announced ex-gratia payment of Rs
50,000 to each of the four injured.

N F Railway had stopped passenger train services in
the section for security reasons from November nine to
December ten this year, and services were resumed on December
11 considering the difficulty of the people, Hajong said.
