Agartala: Tripura Finance Minister Badal
Chowdhury on Monday alleged that the Congress-led UPA government
has been depriving the state of central funds for not
following the liberal economic policies.
"As the state was not following the Congress-led UPA
government`s economic reform policies, the central government
is depriving the state financially," Chowdhury told reporters.

He alleged that not only Tripura but the entire
north-eastern region which is economically backward was facing
financial crisis as the Centre denied to give awards on share
of central funds and proper share of taxes as a result of
which the state might face hardship in timely payment of
committed expenditures like salaries and pension.
"Even the state was compelled to stop many
developmental activities," he added.

Chowdhury alleged that due to the decreasing rate of
interests in small-savings, a section of people were showing
more interests to deposit money in unauthorised non-banking
financial companies (NBFC) in the region.
